Oregon Route 410
Oregon Route 410 (OR 410) is an Oregon state highway running from Sumpter to OR 7 near Sumpter. OR 410 is known as the Sumpter Highway. It is long and runs east–west, entirely within Baker County. OR 410 was established in 2003 as part of Oregon's project to assign route numbers to highways that previously were not assigned, and, as of June 2020, was unsigned. Route description OR 410 begins at the western city limits of Sumpter and heads east through Sumpter. It ends east of the eastern city limits at an intersection with OR 7. History The Sumpter Highway originally ran to the current intersection of OR 7 and OR 245 in Salisbury and was designated as OR 220. This designation was removed in the 1980s when the section east of the current terminus was redesignated as part of the Whitney Highway and OR 7. OR 410 was assigned to the Sumpter Highway in 2003. Sumpter is a city in Baker County, Oregon, United States. The population was 204 at the 2020 census. Sumpter is named after Fort Sumter by its founders. The name was inspired by a rock as smooth and round as a cannonball, which reminded a local resident of the American Civil War and Fort Sumter. Names Baker County was named for Edward Dickinson Baker, a U.S. Senator from Oregon who was killed in the Battle of Ball's Bluff during the American Civil War. Sumpter, first settled by Euro-Americans during this war, was named after Fort Sumter in the U.S. state of South Carolina. Oregon Route 7
Oregon Route 7 is an Oregon state highway which runs from Interstate 84 at Baker City to U.S. Route 26 at Austin Junction. OR 7 traverses several highways of the Oregon state highway system: Whitney Highway No. 71, part of the La Grande–Baker Highway No. 66, and part of the Baker–Copperfield Highway No 12. A short spur, Oregon Route 410, serves the city of Sumpter. Route description OR 7 has its southern terminus at a junction with U.S. Route 26 at the unincorporated locale of Austin Junction. Baker County, Oregon
Baker County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,668. The county seat and largest city is Baker City. The county was organized on September 22, 1862, when a portion of Wasco County was partitioned off. The new county's area was reduced in 1864 when Union County was partitioned off, and again in 1887 when Malheur County was partitioned off. The county's lines were last adjusted in 1901 when a parcel was added to the county.
